ASSIGNMENT 2, ( FINAL)
We were asked to do research on a building, any building at all, to find out the construction sequence. To choose any elements to explain about the materials used, the importance of the elements and the requirement before building structure.
In a group of 3, we chose a house near Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam. Each member chose their own desire elements to explore and explain about. As for me, I chose to do research on the staircase.
Generally, from what I understand, the staircase needs to have the same amount of steps and runs. Every height of the steps (riser) needs to be the same. Normal household steps are generally 3 ft 6 inches. Maximum step riser height needs to be 7 3/8 inches, and the minimum run length of 10 inches. A very common contributing factor is neglecting to use handrails. The consequences can be bad. Good design can substantially reduce the potential for mis-stepping by providing us with the means to retrieve our balance. The best approach to minimise the hazard of falling down stairs is to combine well-designed stairways and training focus on raising our design.
As for the elements that I chose, the staircase has risers of 17.2cm, and the thread is 28.7cm and has wood laminate flooring. The type of the staircase is; double-winder staircase.
As a conclusion, I learnt that stairs needs to follow the requirements as stated in the safety guideline, in order to reduce mis-stepping mishaps when climbing the stairs. As far as I know, open risers are against code due to safety reasons.
