Construction Sequence In Building

So for my 3rd blog assignment, we were asked to build or replicate the construction sequence in making simple building.
I believe that the objectives of the activity were to help us understand construction. We were to learn more and understand more on how different materials work in different ways for construction, and also how to work in group of people with different ways of thinking and working.

The task was to use plasticine as the 'concrete' and rolled papers as the steel bars. We were asked to design and be creative on how we want it to look like.

Steps:

1. We planned our ideas by sketching out roughly on papers.
2. We divided the tasks between each group members for systematic work.
3. We started working on our foundation for the building.
4. We used paper and plasticine to create beam footings (we insert rolled paper into the mould as the 'steel bar')
5. We had all load bearing walls to make it strong and stable.

In the end, I was glad that my team members and I managed to build a very stable and strong structure using only rolled papers and plasticine.

Reflection:

To me, the more I got the chance to work on the assignment, the more I value and understand the important things in construction.Besides, it is always better to work in group with your group of friends and develop our skills and understandings. We shared our opinion and ideas, and we successfully come out with better quality of work compared to our last assignment.

New things I learnt:

1. the more the beams the stronger the footing (?)
2. the choice of materials is very much important.
3. always focus on the uses of building and the aesthetic value of the design.
